We’re gaming at TnF Farms during the rain – Retro hit: Intelligent Qube
We have Faith’s son living with us right now. He’s quite the gamer when he’s not working as a helper at TnF Farms. Between his Meta Oculus Quest and his PlayStation 5, we have already been on some interesting virtual adventures during the daytime rain showers. From first-person shooters to slaying zombies and racing cars, it’s been a lot of fun.
The Meta Oculus Quest was my first VR gaming experience. These graphics were impressive and it is pretty crazy how much you can flail your body around dodging attacks and fighting back against your virtual enemies.
The whole experience made me a little nostalgic for my video gaming days.
I’m so old, I started out on a ColecoVision which had an expansion that played Atari 2600 games. I later moved up to the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System featuring Rob the Robot and the Zapper gun. Much to my frustration, the Zapper never shot that dang dog that laughed at me in Duck Hunt. I had a Sega Genesis in college and later the original PlayStation. All my gaming consoles have been sold, traded, or broken except for my PlayStation.
After playing some of the cutting-edge games with Faith’s son, I had to break out my PlayStation. I really loved the car games: Need for Speed, Ridge Racer, San Francisco RUSH, and Grand Turismo. But that night I was craving a unique challenge…
Let’s play Intelligent Qube.
I was originally exposed to Intelligent Qube through the PS Demo Discs. It was a sampler of games to try and then you could buy the ones you liked. Intelligent Qube was on one of my Demo discs and I played the heck out of the Intelligent Qube demo. Every time you finished, you received the game’s measurement of your I.Q.
Intelligent Qube, also known as Kurushi in Japan, is a puzzle video game developed by Game Arts. It was initially released for the Sony PlayStation in 1997 in Japan and later in other regions. This game is notable for its unique gameplay mechanics and challenging puzzles.
The game features a minimalist visual style with simple graphics and a focus on the puzzle-solving aspect. The soundtrack complements the gameplay, creating an immersive and intense atmosphere as players face increasingly complex challenges.
Playing Intelligent Qube
In Intelligent Qube, players control a character on a grid-based playing field made up of cubes. The objective is to strategically clear the field of certain cubes while avoiding obstacles. The primary mechanics involve rolling over cubes to make them fall into the abyss. There are different types of cubes, including regular ones, dark explosive ones, and special multiplier cubes.
The game’s difficulty increases as players progress through the levels, introducing new challenges and faster-paced gameplay. Intelligent Qube requires quick thinking and precise timing, as players must decide which cubes to clear and when to trigger certain events.
Intelligent Qube was not a best seller but remains a cult classic
While receiving positive reviews for its innovative gameplay and challenging puzzles, players praised its uniqueness and addictiveness, though some found it quite challenging. The game gained a dedicated fan base over the years and is remembered as a cult classic puzzle title for the PlayStation.
Intelligent Qube has inspired puzzle games that followed and remain a noteworthy title in the puzzle genre. While it did not achieve the same mainstream success as some other PlayStation titles, it is fondly remembered by those who appreciate its distinctive gameplay mechanics and challenging puzzles.
Think you can beat me at Intelligent Qube?
I found a website that features online games of the classics! Turn up your sound and click Play Now. It’s been a while, so I can barely make it to stage 2 playing through my browser with a keyboard and mouse. But if I break out IQ on my PlayStation, you’re toast!
If Intelligent Qube isn’t working in your browser, you can visit the website and play the full version here.
